Naturalistic Excursion to Vesuvius National Park

Vesuvius is an active volcano about 1250 m high. It is renown for its eruption in 79 AD that destroyed Pompeii. The last eruption dates back to 1944.
Today it is a beautiful natural park with an abundance of plants. An excursion to Vesuvius is a fascinating walk through the Mediterranean scrub right up to the mouth of the volcano. The climb takes over an hour and is a little tiring (about 250 m height differential). From Vesuvius you can enjoy beautiful views of the Bay of Naples.

USEFUL INFORMATION
Vesuvius can be reached from the Grand Hotel Moon Valley by taking the local train to Herculaneum, (the station is a 10 minute walk from the Hotel, trains every 30 minutes, journey 45 minutes) then the Herculaneum-Vesuvius bus, or a 45 minute drive with a rental car or by car with a private driver.

GROUP TOURS
Organised group tours by bus and with a guide are available.

The Concierge's advice: The Mount Vesuvius itinerary is a nature tour. We recommend the group excursion with an alpine guide that lasts all day, in conjunction with the visit to Pompeii, a combination of history and nature. The tour is not recommended for those who have mobility problems.
